Region 2000 Challenge
As part of SciFest, Randolph College will host the Region 2000 Regional KidWind Renewable Energy Challenge on March 24th, 2024 for students in the area. Top qualifying teams are invited to compete at the State level competition at James Madison University on April 6th.
Registration is limited to students grade 6-8. This event will include only the wind turbine challenge (no solar competition). Please keep team size to 2-6 students.

10am-10:10am: Welcome
10:10am-10:30am: Knowledge Quiz
10:30am-12pm: Judging & Wind tunnel testing
12pm-12:30pm: Lunch break
12:30pm-2pm: Judging & Wind tunnel testing
3pm-3:30pm: Awards Ceremony
**Please note this schedule is subject to change as registration numbers come in.
Teams will receive a schedule day of that includes their time slot for judging. Teams may explore the rest of the events at SciFest while they are not testing or meeting with judges.
Food: Breakfast and lunch will not be provided. We recommend packing a lunch. We will be walking distance to dining options, but because SciFest will bring in many people, the wait for these food options may be too long.
Parking: We recommend dropping students off in front of the chapel, then parking in the Bell Parking Lot.
Technology: If students wish to present with a PowerPoint, they must bring a laptop or projector to present to the judges with. A/V will not be available in the judging room. Please bring a smart phone to take the knowledge quiz on. Wifi will be available.
Please note: This challenge is open to the public as it as part of SciFest. Festival goers will be welcome to come into the building and witness turbine testing and table set ups. The room to meet with judges will be private.
