During the week of June 23 - June 27, Joe from KidWind taught a class on renewable energy for students at "Leonardo's Basement," an innovative educational workshop in South Minneapolis. Over the course of the week, the students, ages 10-12, designed their own geared wind turbines. By the end of the week, all of the turbines were producing over 2 volts, with some reaching as high as 6 volts! Some students were even able to design yawing mechanisms on their turbines to allow them to track changing winds outside.

The students also designed and constructed solar powered boats. Though the sun hid behind clouds on Friday, they were still able to get their boats to speed through the water using small supercapacitors which they charged up using their wind turbines!
