KidWind is planning on having a large presence at WindPower 2010 in Dallas this year. We will be unveiling our WindWise Curriculum, showing off our new educational materials and products, and with support from AWEA holding the first KidWind Challenge in the great state of Texas!
KidWind will have a booth for all of WindPower 2010. There is a teacher workshop all day Sunday sponsored by the NEED Project. KidWind will be working with NEED to allow teachers to play with some of the Challenge competition equipment after the workshop on Sunday.
May 23 : Sunday, Night 4-8PM - NEED Teachers, Conference Attendees
May 24 : Monday, Booth Open 10-6 - Middle School Student Competition Day
May 25 : Tuesday, Booth Open 10-6 - High School Competition Day
May 26 : Wednesday Booth Open 10-4 - Attendees can experiment with the wind tunnel and materials
KidWind is presenting two 3-hour, after-school workshops in Dallas in March and April. These workshop are FREE and open to any teachers interested in bringing wind energy science into their classrooms. Attending teachers will learn about hands-on activities and engaging lessons to teach about wind power, and will also learn about an opportunity to participate in the Wind Turbine Challenge at the AWEA conference. This competition challenges students to build the most powerful and efficient wind turbine. The competition will be held on the floor of the AWEA conference - where students will be brushing shoulders with the big players in the worldwide wind industry! Students will test their turbines in the KidWind Wind Tunnel, a professional wind tunnel with live data monitoring software recording their turbine power output! Registration for the Wind Turbine Challenge is FREE, and students compete for GREAT PRIZES!
A workshop specific to the KidWind Challenge will be held at the WindPower conference in May.

With the support of AWEA & others, We are bringing the KidWind Challenge to Texas. This May in Dallas, TX we will seek out middle and high school students interested in testing their engineering and scientific prowess as they build the most powerful and elegant student wind turbines ever constructed... at least, those under 4 feet tall.
It is easy to join the challenge. All you need is a team, a few ideas and a willingness to try and build a device that transforms the energy in the wind into electricity.
This challenge will feature our very own wind tunnel, designed by a middle school class specifically for the KidWind Challenge! On Wednesday, May 26, from 10-4, attendees can experiment with the tunnel and wind turbine materials.
Click here for rules, registration, and to see more details about the event.
Other Logistics: If you sign up a team at the registration page you will be provided free basic materials. The ideas to build the turbine need to be all your own.
Sponsors: We are currently working with some sponsors to secure funding for busing to the event. Please send a note to michael(at)kidwind.org if you are interested in this and we will contact you if these funds become available. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please click here.
If you would like to meet with us during the conference, please contact us or give us a call 877-917-0079. You can also simply show up at our booth!
Please check out the other sections of the KidWind site. We offer curriculum and wind energy kits for classroom science projects.
