The KidWind Challenge was started in New York in 2009 with a $25,000 grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). These funds were used to build a portable wind tunnel and move the Challenge between four locations during the winter and spring, where students can bring their turbines for competition.
At WindPower 2010, AWEA has generously donated space to hold the KidWind Challenge on the conference floor. A number of other companies are also providing support for materials, prizes and general logistics.
