The KidWind Project was founded by a sixth-grade science teacher who wanted to make affordable clean energy science kits and free curricula, as well as other clean energy science resources for educators.
After 6 years, KidWind remains committed to this model. With a well trained team, KidWind prides itself on prompt and thorough customer support. In addition, KidWind allocates part of its revenue toward teacher workshops.
KidWind is also committed to an as-sustainable-as-possible business model.
- Our office and warehouse utilities are paid for with Xcel Energy's 100% Wind source option.
- KidWind staff do their best to reduce carbon emissions by biking or driving scooters to work.
- Instructional manuals for kits are printed on 50% recycled paper (anything higher was wreaking havoc on our copier!).
- KidWind moved from using PVC turbine towers and bases to HDPE (High- density polyethylene... still petroleum based but better for the environ ment) and wooden towers.
- Most of the parts in KidWind wind turbine kits are made in the U.S., and plastic molds are made with recycled plastic by Harbec Plastics Inc., a wind powered facility.
