windMaster program

NYSERDA has generously funded KidWind training for science and technology teachers all over the state. Over the last 4 years KidWind has held 18 training events for more than 500 teachers. These teachers have integrated and improved our wind energy educational materials to help teach thousands of students the science and engineering of wind power.

In the summer of 2008, NYSERDA funded the windMaster trainers program. (Click here to read the newspaper article about it.) This program brought eight accomplished teachers from all over New York State together at SUNY Morrisville for one week to learn the science, politics and engineering of wind power. These windMasters, with the support of KidWind and NYSERDA, are now holding their own trainings all over New York State during the Fall and Spring of this academic year.

The windMaster trainers workshop was the culmination of 12 months of planning and collaboration with a number of local partners. Important collaborators included SUNY Morrisville Renewable Energy Program and the Fenner Renewable Energy (FREE) Center.

The trainers’ days were packed with tours of local wind farms, guest lecturers, and practical lessons and materials that they will share with teachers during future KidWind workshops.

During the next school year the windMasters below will take ideas learned during this training program to their peers through workshops and outreach events all over New York State.
